Obituary of William Rondeau

William “Bill” Kalman Rondeau passed on June 4, 2018 after an unexpectedly long, and generally triumphant battle with leukemia.  He was born October 17, 1937, the son of Kalman and Pauline Rondeau.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan Marie (Klinger) Rondeau.  Sisters Rita (Bud) Pere and Kay (Dave) Klavon. Children, Vicki Rondeau, Richard Rondeau, Matthew Rondeau, Adam (Kris) Rondeau, Darius Rondeau, Tessann Rondeau, Joyceann (Kenneth) Maynard, Jacob Rondeau, Benjamin Rondeau, Allison Rondeau and Jessa Rondeau.  Grand children, Shaina, Colin, Rayanna, Alexa, Jacob, Kevin and Samantha.  Great grandchildren, Leyla and Noah.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a life-long down-river resident, spending most of his time in Wyandotte.  He was the consummate Michigander exploring the state from top to bottom; the more remote the better! Much of his career was spent at Great Lakes Steel.

Bill and Susan were foster parents to a family too numerous to count, giving selflessly whenever there was need.

As a younger man Bill had a stint in the Marine Corps, followed by several years as an US Army Airborne Ranger, as part of the prestigious 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions.  In the latter he was part of the parachute assault during the 1958 Lebanon Crisis.  He was an extraordinary marksman, having won numerous military pistol competitions in the United States and Europe.  He maintained his military physique and “can-do” attitude throughout his life.

Bill was a “fixer,” whether it was a device or a person.  If there was a seemingly insurmountable problem, his motto was, “…we’re looking at it the wrong way, there must be another solution.”  He would never turn down any person in need, and we are challenged to uphold the level of generosity he demonstrated on a daily basis.
