Obituary of Joanne B. Cole

May 4, 1939 – October 4, 2024 

Joanne B. Cole (nee: Netherton).  Age 85 of Taylor.

Loving mother of Lee (Keri) Levack.  Dearest grandmother of Ethan and Jacob Levack.  Also survived by many cousins, church family and close friends.  Preceded in death by her parents Lyman and Mary Netherton.

Family Tribute ~

On October 4th, 2024, Joanne B. Cole (nee Netherton) entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 

Joanne was born on May 4th, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Lyman and Mary Netherton. She graduated from River Rouge High School. She lived in the downriver communities of Southgate, Lincoln Park and most recently Taylor.

In her younger years, she was active in Voice of Christian Youth and learned to play the piano. Her occupations included office administration, assisting at 7-Eleven for a short time where she worked with her son Lee. She worked on fundraising efforts for Capital Campaigns in the Southfield area with 'Marvin'.  She ran her own small business devoted to designing and providing t-shirts to various businesses including Greenfield Village and WH Canon. Most recently, Joanne worked at Macy's Southland where she served in several departments including women's accessories, mens clothing and fragrances. 

She was a two-time breast cancer survivor and devoted herself to fundraising and awareness events and activities including Women Celebrating Life, BMW's Drive for the Cure, Susan G Komen's Race for the Cure and the Michigan March. 

Joanne's interests included; gardening, antiques, decorating her condo, reading, traveling to the Smoky Mountains, the Asheville, North Carolina area where family was raised and resided and visited Florida where her cousin lives. She volunteered at Taylor Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and enjoyed walks at Heritage Park. She immersed herself in scripture reading, and was a longtime supporter of In-Touch Ministries. Most recently she attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Wyandotte where she would participate in Bible studies and assist in 'making the bows' for Christmas.

Joanne will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend. Her faith and love for God is an example to be passed down for generations to come.
