Obituary of James Samfilippo

August 21, 1926 - July 17, 2022

James V. Samfilippo.  Age 95 of Southgate, formerly of Allen Park.

Beloved husband of the late Josephine.  Loving father of James Jr. (Marie) , Dennis (Abby), Gary (Traci), Carolyn (Alan) Sullivan, Robert (Patti) and Joseph (Rick).  Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to Custom Hospice.

FAMILY TRIBUTE

"I've been waiting for you, you old goat". I'm sure those were the first words you heard when you got to heaven. 

And now you finally get to be together again with grandma. How lucky you are to be back with one of the greatest women. 
I know she's been missing you. 

And now we will all miss you both. 

How do you measure a life? 
840,705 hours 
35,029 days 
95 years, 1 0 months, and 27 days -what a life. 

What a long amazing life. Filled with so much love, memories, experiences, adventures. You were blessed with 6 kids,13 grandkids, 18 great-grandkids. 
You touched so many lives.

Were you the butt of many jokes at family get togethers? Perhaps .... This is a tough crowd after all, but that just means you were everyone's favorite.

When I think of you, I think of: 
-Your smile -it never left your face.
-Your sense of humor -where even 4 weeks ago you still had it. When asked "what are you up to" you responded "Oh, about 6'1"."
-Your ability to sleep in
-Your appetite and love for The Olive Garden {are you sure you're really Italian?)
-Your crossword puzzles
-Your beautiful nose -which you passed down to so many of us.
-Your house in Allen Park -specifically the basement where many family get togethers were had, where Sunday dinners were shared, where memories were created.

How is one so lucky to live for so many years? 
Genetics? Ok, maybe ... but that only accounts for 30% 

You must have been on to something. 

While we may have teased you about your Sleep habits, .... We know now how important sleep and recovery is to your health. 

While we may have teased you about you taking your blood pressure or measuring your waist (daily), looking back you just used the metrics available to you at the time to understand your health. 

And while we know how bad stress is for one's life -you exuded a happy, simple, stress free life. 

You were 'fit bit' before it existed. A pioneer ahead of his time .... You showed how to live a long fulfilling life. We can all learn from you. fulfilling life. We can all learn from you.
