Obituary of Richard Arthur Tollefson

July 12, 1925 - November 1, 2020

Richard Arthur Tollefson. Age 95 of Southgate.

A Wonderful Man has been called home.

Richard (Dick) Tollefson passed away peacefully on November 12020 surrounded by family and friends.

Richard was born on July 12, 1925 to parents Arthur and Maxine in L’anse Michigan. He was one of 6 siblings and is preceded in death by brothers Ken, Gordon, and Hilfred (Pud) and sisters Norma and Bonnie.

On May 15, 1948, Richard married the love of his life Virginia Tollefson (Cook). They shared a long loving life together remaining by each other’s side until Virginia’s passing in 2011. During their life together they welcomed into this world three children, the late Sharon (Chuck) Spahn, the late Rick (Mary) Tollefson, and Darrell Tollefson.

Richard and Virginia loved spending time with family and were fortunate to have 6 grandchildren, Chaz (Chris) Spahn, David (Natalie) Spahn, Eric (Rachel) Tollefson, Jeff (Lorie) Tollefson, Laura (Ray) Galasso and Greg Tollefson. They also had 8 great-grandchildren, Kelly, Megan, Danielle, Rinker, Miller, Jacob, Hannah and Raymond.

Richard was a quiet and loving family man. He worked hard many of his years of life providing a living for his family proudly driving a cement truck. He loved spending time with family and friends either going out to eat at a favorite restaurant, enjoying a holiday meal together, or just sitting and catching up. He loved going to church. He enjoyed many outdoors activities such as fishing, camping, working in the yard or garden, or just relaxing and watching the planes or boats go by. He loved sports especially baseball and hockey and could always be found rooting for his favorite Detroit teams. He was truly a great man often described as the best dad, grandpa, friend, or neighbor a person could have. He loved spending time with his family and hearing what was happening in their lives and what adventures life had taken them on.

Richard is survived by his son Darrell, daughter-in-law Mary, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren

Richard was a fighter till the end. He was called home today to be with all his loved ones that passed before him. They are reunited now celebrating his return.
