Family Tribute

Katherine Miller was one of 12 children but was gifted in a manner that allowed her to stand out in any environment. She had a quick wit and social skills well beyond her eighth-grade education.

Early in her life, Katherine and some of her siblings were employed as "girls of Atomic City" in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where they were tasked with enriching uranium for the Manhattan Project and the construction of the atomic bombs that would end WWII. Later, she spent decades working for Sears Roebuck & Co, where, according to her boss, she regularly led the shoe department in high sales and low returns. No telling how many times she climbed up to reach for a pair of shoes for customers. She retired from Sears and spent her later life enjoying the treasured, loving family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that she built with Tom.

Kat was loved and admired by young and old. Kat and Tom provided a safe haven away from home for their children and grandchildren's friends. Kat was a constant source of admiration and, even more so, entertainment. We shall remember her best for her spirit and ability to talk to anyone about anything, at any time, even when you may not always want to hear it. The best testament to her charisma was that, in the last 18mo of her life, spent in hospice care, her room remained grand central station among the facility where she resided and passed.

She was truly Katherine the Great, was dearly loved, and will be sorely missed.
