Obituary of Betty Lee White

June 9, 1926 - May 30, 2020

Betty Lee (Wright) White, daughter of Homer Lee Wright and Elizabeth Haunstein Wright, Age 93 of Wyandotte.

Beloved wife of Carroll White. Loving mother of Robert Lee (Joanne) White, Marcia Mai and Ronald (MiYeon) White. Dearest grandmother of Elisa, Evan, Carson Lee, Marshal, Wyatt, Min Woo and Min Yong. Great grandmother of Nina, Vera Lee and Felix.

Betty Lee was the youngest of four children, raised in a small town near Lake of the Ozarks, MO. She brought her small-town values and strong Presbyterian faith with her when she married and moved to MI in 1952. She and Carroll bought a house in Wyandotte in 1957, where they raised their three children and lived for 62 years.

Betty was very active in her church, most recently the Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and contributing to church dinners and bazaars. She also volunteered at the Fort Street Presbyterian Mission in Detroit, where she delivered gently used clothing for the homeless, and helped serving meals- for 40 years.

She graduated from Park College, where she played college basketball. She was a high school teacher in Iowa and later a long-term substitute teacher at Jefferson Elementary School, in Wyandotte. Betty enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, working in her garden, and feeding the birds. She treasured her many friends and seemed to always be making new friends. She was devoted to her family, especially delighting in her 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, who all cherished her.

A celebration of her life at a Memorial Service will be planned for later this year. Please check back for updated service information.
